Eloise Christine Elizabeth Cox Searles Newton, 83, of the 3100 block of Shore Drive, died March 8, 1995 in Virginia Beach.
Mrs. Newton was born in Wichita, Kansas. She was a retired secretary for various Searles Engineers Enterprises, former member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, deacon and elder of the church and a choir member for many years. She was also a member of Bayside Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Elliotte Charles Newton; three cousins, Hellen McGuire of Norfolk, Charles and Elanor Duncan of Brooksville, Fla., and Jeff and Nadine King of Sarasota, Fla.; one stepson, Arthur E. Searles, Jr. of Lexington, Ky.; three nephews, James and his wife Rita Searles Stewart of Greenville, S.C., Leigh and his wife Linda Searles Thompson of Homosassa, Fla., and John and his wife Mary Ledford of Trussville, Ala. She is also survived by special friends, Mrs. Bernadine Mollenhauler of San Antonio, Texas, Paul and Phylis Mechino of Naples, Fla., and Margie Carraway of Chesapeake.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westminister-Canterbury Chapel, 3100 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, by Dr. Richard J. Keever and Dr. John R. Monroe. If friends wish to view the body, they may do so prior to 2 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Westminister Canterbury - Fellowship Fund. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements.
