Four-laning of another section of U.S. 64 between Williamston and Tarboro will begin early next month, the Department of Transportation announced this week.
The $28.8 million road project will eliminate a 10.3-mile, two-lane section of U.S. 64 between Tarboro and Conetoe, said William Jones, a DOT spokesman. The contract is the first of six that will provide for eventual four-laning of U.S. 64 between Tarboro and Williamston.
The highway is four lanes between Tarboro and Raleigh, and for a considerable portion of the road between the Virginia line and Hertford. Only the unimproved sections between Edenton and Windsor and west of Williamston toward Tarboro remain two lanes. by CNB
