Stewart, 53, is president and sole stockholder of Stewart SawWorks Inc.
A special agent with the Department of Revenue's Criminal Investigations Division testified that Stewart failed to report a total of $56,496 during those three years, including receipts Stewart took from his corporation and excluded from his tax return.
Testimony indicated Stewart cashed 114 checks made payable to the corporation and used the money for his personal expenses, according to a news release from the Revenue Department.
Superior Court Judge Stafford G. Bullock gave Stewart a five-year suspended sentence and three years of supervised probation. The judge also ordered him to pay a $5,000 fine and repay $7,496 to the Department of Revenue for taxes, penalties and interest.
