GARDEN VANDALS

Twice a day I use Hampton Boulevard. Over the past year and a half I have been most pleased to see the beautification of that area progress, especially in the area of Old Dominion University - the new center medians with their plantings of trees and shrubs and new lighting.

The thing that absolutely infuriates me is the area at 43rd Street where university-age mindless vandals have deliberately broken down and cut through the fence and completely ruined that section of the landscaping. That section of fence was replaced recently, and I see as of last evening it is once again being mutilated.

There are convenient crosswalks at both 42nd and 44th streets.

As a concerned citizen of Norfolk and a taxpayer, I sincerely hope the city will errect cyclone fencing along that area as they have done at Wards Corner to help protect what our hard-earned money has been spent on.
