Habbert E. Wheatley, 78, of the 300 block of J. Wimbledon Chase, a retired bookkeeper, died March 11, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mr. Wheatley was born in South Norfolk, Va. He had retired from Portsmouth Paving Co. in 1979. He was a 40-year member of Cradock United Methodist Church and past chairman of the Church Board and past chairman of the Finance Committee of the church. He was a member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge 178. He was predeceased by his parents, Octavius and Bertha Wheatley, and a sister, Ora Willis.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 55 years, Margaret Wheatley of Chesapeake; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Jennifer Wheatley of Winter Springs, Fla., and Gordon and Sybil Wheatley of Portsmouth; a brother, Rudolph C. Wheatley of Portsmouth; four granddaughters and two sons-in-law, Drs. Donna and Kevin Sanders of Yorktown, Va., Rebecca and Rick VonMeister of Springfield, Va., Patricia Wheatley of Fairfax, Va., and Frances Wheatley of Richmond.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cradock United Methodist Church by the Rev. George H. Close Jr. and the Rev. James E. Powell Jr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cradock United Methodist Church.
