A woman and her two small children were struck by a passing vehicle Sunday, seriously injuring the two children, police said.
The accident occurred at 5:05 p.m. on Virginia Beach Boulevard at Little Neck Road. Catherine A. Neuen, 36, of the 5300 block of Yellow Knife Court, accompanied by her 8-year-old daughter, Amelia DiMauro, was walking across the westbound lanes of the boulevard pushing a stroller that held her 3-year-old son, Ronnie DiMauro.
A 1993 GMC Suburban, driven by Charles A. Phillips Jr., 37, of the 3700 block of Strathmoor Circle, struck them while turning onto the boulevard from Little Neck Road.
The boy was thrown from the stroller by the impact and then pinned under the car until rescue crews could get him out.
The children were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where the boy was listed in critical condition with head injuries and the girl was listed in serious condition with internal injuries.
The mother was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital where she was treated for multiple injuries, none life-threatening. She later went to Norfolk General to be with the children.
Police said the accident was still under investigation and it was uncertain if charges would be filed. Phillips was not speeding and was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol was not involved in the accident.
