Norfolk's decision to opt for one of our Iowa-class battlewagons as an enhancement to Nauticus is superb. Everyone in Hampton Roads should support this endeavor to save for posterity a beautiful engine of national power that has been misused and, finally, thrown away by our politicians.
However, and despite the additional cost of bringing it here from Bremerton, the chosen ship should be the Missouri.
No other locale can more reasonably lay claim to the Missouri than Norfolk - repository for the remains of and memorial to General MacArthur, who presided over the surrender of the Japanese empire aboard this historic ship. The Missouri at Nauticus can provide the needed tie between the waterfront and downtown, wherein resides the MacArthur Memorial.
