JULIA JOYNER STRICKLAND

Julia Joyner Strickland, 59, died Sunday, March 12, 1995.

A native of Kelford, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Arthur C. and Ethel D. Joyner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas E. Strickland Jr. She was a graduate of Park View Nursing School in Rocky Mount, N.C., and was employed at Wake Medical Center for 25 years as a supervisor in labor and delivery. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross for 10 years. In 1989, she was selected as one of the Great 100 Nurses in N.C.

Julia is survived by her sons, Phillip L. Strickland of Norfolk, David L. Strickland and his wife, Robin of Raleigh; a daughter, Jeanie A. Strickland of Raleigh; three brothers, Ray C. Joyner of Williamsburg, Va., Alvin W. Joyner of Newport News and Fred A. Joyner of Rocky Mount; three sisters, Geraldine J. Harrison of Dolphin, Va., Celia J. Berdensey of Newport News and Hilda J. Davidson of Kelford.

A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will accept friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Millbrook Road. Flowers are accepted and for those wishing to do so, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wake County Unit, 620 W. Morgan St., P.O. Box 27624, Raleigh, N.C. 27603.
