Robert H. Pope of Courtland has been named to the state's Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Appointed by Gov. George F. Allen, Pope replaces Joseph H. Barlow of Suffolk. Pope's term was effective March 1.
Pope is vice president and a partner in Morven Partners, LP, a peanut company. The company is the nation's largest roaster of in-the-shell peanuts and has peanut-shelling operations in three states. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Virginia-Carolina Peanut Shellers Association.
According to the annual report from the Secretary of the Commonwealth, the board's purpose, powers and duties are ``to promote the agricultural interests of the state.''
One member is appointed from each congressional district and serves four years. Barlow's term expired February 28.
Herbert A. Culpepper of Virginia Beach, owner of Pungo Realty, also was named to the board. by CNB
