SEVEN TO VIE FOR MISS SUFFOLK TITLE SATURDAY THE PAGEANT WILL AWARD MORE THAN $1,100 IN SCHOLARSHIPS.

Seven young women will vie Saturday for the title of Miss Suffolk 1995.

The contest, forerunner to the Miss Virginia and Miss America pageants, will begin at 8 p.m. at John Yeates Middle School. Tickets are $6 at the door.

The winner will be crowned by Jennifer Lucy Martir, 20, of Chesapeake. Last year's titlist, she attends Tidewater Community College and Old Dominion University, majoring in dance.

Saturday's pageant will award more than $1,100 in scholarships. The theme is ``You're The One That I Want.'' Music will be by ``Flashback'' and Mary Joyner.

Emcees are Ray Lowther, music specialist for Portsmouth Public Schools, and Amy Parker, Miss Suffolk 1993.

The contestants are:

Allyson Jeanette Barco, 18, a 1994 Isle of Wight Academy graduate and a freshman at Virginia Tech, majoring in accounting. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Barco, Brittany Lane, Suffolk. Talent: lyrical dance. Platform: children's involvement in community recreation.

Rachel Leigh Bunn, 19, a 1993 graduate of Lakeland High School. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. William Bunn, North Broad Street, Suffolk. Talent: singing. Platform: child abuse.

Catherine Dare Burden, 18, a 1994 graduate of Lakeland High School and a freshman at Paul D. Camp

Community College, majoring in computer science. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Burden, Grove Avenue, Suffolk. Talent: piano. Platform: stopping violence in America.

Patricia Faye Gangemi, 20, a 1992 graduate of Franklin High School. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. David Gangemi of Ashton Avenue, Franklin. Talent: piano. Platform: abused, neglected children.

Lee Landis Graves, a 1992 graduate of Granby High School, Norfolk; a sophomore at Tidewater Community College; attends Old Dominion University, majoring in sports medicine and minoring in dance. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Donald T. Graves, Wells Parkway, Norfolk. Talent: ballet. Platform: eating disorders.

Sherry Celeste Mann, 20, a 1992 graduate of Western Branch High School, Chesapeake, and a sophomore at Tidewater Community College, majoring in liberal arts. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mann, Rosemary Lane, Chesapeake. Talent: singing. Platform: P.R.A.Y. - People Reaching All Youth through mentoring pro-grams.

Caren Marie Reed, 21, a 1992 graduate of Portsmouth Christian School and a sophomore at Tidewater Community College, majoring in biology. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. George Reed, Fennell Lane, Suffolk.
