Lindsay ``Speedy'' Thomas Coberly, 15, died Wednesday, March 15, 1995.
He was a native and lifelong resident of the area and was a ninth-grade student at Smithfield High School. A former player in North Hampton, Deer Park and Parkview Little Leagues, he had been a member of their All Star Teams. He was also a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Hampton.
He is survived by his parents, Regina L. and Andrew W. Smith of Newport News and Thomas Coberly of Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary B. Cook. Other survivors include a sister, Shelly J. Smith, and a brother, Nickolas A. Smith of Newport News; maternal grandfather, Gene Cook of Hampton; paternal grandmother, Margaret Smith of Newport News; paternal grandmother, Peggy J. Hughes of Williamsburg; other loving family members, uncles, Harrell Cook, Jamie Cook, Ricky Cook, Charles Smith, Craig Smith, George Smith, Johnny Smith, Tommy Reaves and Bernd Voigt; aunts, Cara Thies, Ginger Reaves and Kathy Voigt; cousins, Jeremy Cook, Michael and Stephen Reaves, Dustie Cook, Melissa Cook, Shannon DeLauder; a special family friend, Jack McNett and the entire Coberly family.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Peggy B. Buelow officiating. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends this evening at St. Mark's Episcopal Church from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Parkview Little League, 9297 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23605.
