INFORMATION ABOUT UPS CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER

United Parcel Service will employ more than 600 full-time and 200 part-time workers at its new package tracking center.

Officials said Wednesday the center would open in June

Q. What kind of work will be done at the facility?

A. Workers at the computerized customer service center will track the delivery of regional packages through the UPS system. The center will be located in a renovated former discount store in Warwick Village Shopping Center, 11008 Warwick Blvd.

Q. Will all the workers be hired locally?

A. UPS may bring some managers from other facilities, but the bulk of the workers will be hired locally.

Q. How much will the jobs pay?

A. Of the roughly 840 jobs, about 75 percent will be full-time positions. While company executives declined to say how much the jobs would pay, adding that they won't know until they hire an independent contractor to run the center, city officials estimate that most workers will make from $8.25 to $11.25 an hour.

Q. How can workers apply for a job?

A. While the application process won't be final until UPS selects an independent contractor to run the center, the Atlanta-based company has signed a one-year lease for temporary space in nearby Warwick Center, according to the city's Industrial Development Authority, which brokered the deal. The facility will act as an employment office and an interim tracking center.

Q. What skills will the workers need?

A. The company said it will provide training.

Q. How will the new center affect the company's Oyster Point distribution center?

A. It won't. As a facility that tracks packages, its work will be independent of the distribution center. by CNB
