Two U.S. Navy crewmen were missing Thursday after their helicopter crashed in the Pacific Ocean off Japan.
The helicopter was hovering near the aircraft carrier Independence when it went down Wednesday night east of the U.S. naval base at Yokosuka, near Tokyo.
The helicopter, a Sikorsky SH-60F with a four-man crew, was conducting a routine mission - on standby for search-and-rescue duties for airplanes flying to and from the ship.
The pilot and co-pilot were rescued and recovering in stable condition with cuts and minor hypothermia. One of the crewmen had a broken leg, the Navy said.
