Eugene Ernest Griffin, age 69, of 853 Rock Creek Church Road, formerly of Portsmouth, Va., died Thursday, March 16, 1995, at his home.
Mr. Griffin was born Oct. 26, 1925, in Vermont to Floyd and Loma Griffin. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Marines and was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was active in the Veterans Administration.
Surviving are his fiancee, Nancy Parker of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; one son, Eugene Ernest Griffin Jr. of Portsmouth; two daughters, Lorna Griffin Smith of Ladysmith, Va., and Betty Shumate of Forest City, N.C.; three grandchildren; three stepsons, Robert Sutton, Thomas Sutton and William Sutton, all of Portsmouth, Va., and one stepdaughter, Grace Allison of Portsmouth.
Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Green Lawn Cemetery in Chesapeake, Va. The family will be at Miller Funeral Service from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, First Union National Bank, c/o Linda Goforth, 21 West Main St., Wilkesboro, N.C., 28697. Miller Funeral Service Inc., is in charge.
