Dr. Curtis D. Turnage of the 1200 block of Northside Road, died Thursday, March 16, 1995.
Dr. Turnage was a native of Halifax County, N.C., and a graduate of Elizabeth City State University (bachelor's degree), Virginia State University (master's degree) and Howard University (doctorate degree). His academic endeavors include extended study at East Carolina University, research at North Carolina State University and extramural associate for National Institutes of Health. Dr. Turnage was committed to the promotion of science and education. He was a professor and chairman of the Biology Department at Elizabeth City State University. Along with the pursuit of science and education, he was a dedicated member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was the son of Beatrice Hilliard Turnage of Halifax, N.C. and the late Horace Turnage.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Murphy Turnage; daughter, Andrea Lori Turnage of Upper Marlboro, Md.; brother, Kenneth Earl Turnage of Halifax; sisters, Dorothy Turnage Knight of Halifax and Patricia Turnage Edmondson of Rocky Mount, N.C.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Moore Hall Auditorium at Elizabeth City State University. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery. The wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at Moore Hall Auditorium Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Walson Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, is in charge of arrangements.
