Put nearly $75,000 on the table and offer it for a weekend's worth of work, and it's doubtful you would have trouble finding takers.
So it's no surprise that more than 100 entries have been received for Sunday's Miller Genuine Draft 300 Late Model Stock Car race.
The winner takes home $25,000 of the largest purse ever offered in the Late Model division. It's the first time the division hasn't had to share the spotlight with Grand National or Modified cars at Martinsville.
Richmonder Bugs Hairfield won this race last season, and claimed the extra-distance 200-lap feature at Langley last season. Defending Langley track champion Phil Warren and Southside Speedway champ Shayne Lockhart were reported to turn some of the fastest times, as did '94 Mid-Atlantic region champion Barry Beggarly.
Time trials for the top 20 spots get underway today at 3 p.m. At 12:30 Sunday the first of two 50-lap qualifying races takes the green flag to set the 36-car field. The final four spots will be filled with provisional starters for the 200-lap race after the second qualifier. by CNB
