SEVEN DAYS SLICES OF LIFE IN VIRGINIA BEACH A PERFECT DAY TO PIG OUT

1 p.m. - Rainbow Gardens, Princess Anne Road.

Creeds is having a traffic jam.

Hundreds of folks, lured by home cooked barbecue, a beautiful day and a lovely setting, are arriving for the Creeds Ruritan Club Barbecue. The Ruritans are hoping for a record-breaking 1,500 customers at the annual feast this year.

So many cars are stopped along the road waiting to park that at one point Ruritans wave potential customers off. Later, the Ruritans resort to applesauce to replace the coleslaw, which had run out. Fortunately, the barbecue, hush puppies and baked beans hold out.

At the end of the day, the Ruritans realize they have served more than 2,100 people.
