CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS

The City Council took the following actions at its meeting Wednesday:

Public hearing to solicit comments concerning changing a polling place from the Elephant's Fork Elementary School to the Eastover Wilroy Ruritan Club. After two members of the audience voiced complaint about the new voting location, the council moved to table the motion until after a public briefing was held on the change. Approved 7-0

Ordinance accepting and appropriating $15,000 from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for the ``Drive 55 Program.'' Second Reading

Approved 7-0

Ordinance appropriating $21,944 for the hiring of police officers associated with the Cops Ahead Program. Second Reading

Approved 7-0

Ordinance accepting and appropriating a supplemental grant award of $2,902 from the Virginia Department of Waste Management, Division of Litter Control and Recycling, for fiscal year 1994-95. First Reading

Ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award of $1,888.95 from the Virginia Department of Health Rescue Squad Assistance fund for purchase of Advanced Life Support training and calibration equipment. First Reading

Resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation to include Burbage Lake Circle, Wet Marsh Court, Leefield Court, Olde Bullocks Circle and Crosswinds Court in the Burbage Lake Village Subdivision, Sections I, II and III, into the State Secondary Road System. Approved 7-0

Resolution amending the State Secondary Road System to abandon a portion of Audubon Road and to add the relocated Audubon Road. Approved 7-0

Resolution establishing the 1995 recommendations to be made by the City of Suffolk at the Virginia Department of Transportation preallocation hearing for the six-year improvement program for interstate, primary and urban systems. Approved 7-0

Resolution in support of the city providing funding for road projects through the Virginia Department of Transportation 50-50 Revenue Sharing Program. Approved 7-0Resolution in support of naming the portion of Interstates 64 and 664 as the Hampton Roads Beltway. Approved 7-0

Establish a City Council work session for April 5 at 5:30 p.m. unless canceled. Approved 7-0

Reduction in hours at the Holland Post Office. Councilman Underwood asked that the city send a letter to the local postmaster asking to keep the current hours intact for the convenience of citizens. Letters are also to be sent to the city's congressional delegation. Approved 7-0
