On issue after issue the General Assembly, controlled by the Democrats, said no to positive, constructive change. It was unbelievable! They would not permit discussion of issues and voting on the floor. When told of Governor Allen's claim that Democrats feared a floor vote on various issues vs. committee votes, House Speaker Thomas Moss said, ``Bull crap, why should I give him what he wants? The fact that he wants it makes me against it.''
Sen. Hunter Andrews, chairman of the Finance Committee; Alan Diamondstein; Lt. Gov. Don Beyer; and most other Democrats had similar attitudes.
The people of this great state of Virginia voted Governor Allen into office because of his promises to get the fat out of government, cut taxes and to be more responsive to the people.
So, thank you Democrats; the citizens of Virginia have been watching and waiting. The fall of 1995 will be a wonderful time when we finally vote enough of the Democrats out of office to give Assembly control to the ``people-serving'' Republicans. We could then limit state-government support of funds for numerous unusual proposals such as universities allowing benefits for partners of gay and lesbian educators.
Voters, prepare for massive double-talk by Democrats this fall. How wonderful 1996 and beyond will be with Governor Allen coordinating the state legislature with a Republican General Assembly!
