Mrs. Willie Tom Bell Laine Rawlings, age 88, a resident of Waverly, Va., died Saturday, March 18, 1995, in Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. Born in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Thomas and Willie Mathias Bell. She was widow of Edward F. Laine Sr. and Lester Thomas Rawlings. She had retired as a seamstress sales clerk at Montgomery Ward in Newport News and for W.S. Peebles Co. in Waverly. She was a member of Waverly United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church. She also belonged to the Sussex County Homemaker's Club and the Waverly Senior Citizen's Club.
She is survived by a son, Edward F. Laine Jr. of Wakefield; a daughter, Mary Laine Rawlings of Petersburg; two sisters, Vira Bell Simmons of Emporia and Erma Parker Shufelt of Surry; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Tuesday, March 21, 1995, at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Randy McMillen and Dr. David G. Brown Jr. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 432 W. Main St., Waverly. Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad or to a favorite charity.
