Joseph C. Thomas Jr., 82, of the 900 block of Hillview Blvd., died March 19, 1995, in Norfolk.
Mr. Thomas was born in Norfolk and was retired as superintendent of Public Works, U.S. Civil Service. He was a member and elder of Congregational Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, Chesapeake, where he was a former deacon, choir member and a Sunday School teacher for 65 years. He was former secretary/treasurer of the Pentecostal Holiness Conference. He was also a member of Berkley Old Timers Club and had served in the Naval Reserve.
Survivors include his wife, Etta C. Thomas; a stepdaughter, Barbara Barclift of Virginia Beach; a son, Joseph C. Thomas III of Virginia Beach; a stepson, Carson L. Walton of Norfolk; a sister, Alice Pruitt of Chesapeake; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a special daughter-in-law, Linda M. Thomas of Virginia Beach.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Congregational Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Ernest Trueblood. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, and at the residence at all other times.
