Charles C. Pace Sr., of the 3400 block of Bow Creek Blvd., a retired police officer, died March 19, 1995.
Mr. Pace was born in Womack Hills, Ala., and was retired from the city of Virginia Beach after 32 years of service. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, and a former member of the Trustee Board. In 1957 he joined the Virginia Beach Police Department; in 1964 he was transferred to the Youth Bureau as detective; and in 1968 he was named The City Policeman of The Year. He was the first black to win this award. He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie B. Pace; eight daughters, Evelyn Jefferson, Joyce Jackson, Annette Rodgers, Alice Wilson, Adrian Pace, Gwenadolyn Miles, all of Virginia Beach, Shirley Winder of Norfolk and Carolyn Kellam of Hinesville, Ga.; a son, Charles C. Pace Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Eddie E. Everett of Eight Miles, Ala.; a brother, Ulyesses Turner of Pittsburgh, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in New Hope Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. E. Ray Cox. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Community Funeral Home, Virginia Beach Chapel, is handling arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
