I read with interest John P. Scott's letter (Feb. 24) concerning his conversations with residents of Somerset County, Md., about the prison recently placed there.
I am very familiar with that county and know many of its residents. I was working that area when the controversy began. I heard all the pros and cons.
I am sure almost everyone here on the Eastern Shore has heard and read the arguments for and against the location of a prison in Northampton County.
Recently you ran a lengthy article about the closing of McCrory's Five and Dime store in Cape Charles. You also mentioned the closing of other businesses and the declining population in that town, along with the closing of other industries in that area.
I wonder if there isn't a message somewhere.
