PRISONER INDICTED

A federal grand jury has indicted a prisoner on charges of threatening to kill U.S. District Judge Robert G. Doumar.

Sinclair L. Atkins Jr., who is serving time in Mecklenberg Correctional Center in Boydton, was charged with five counts of threatening a federal official, threatening by means of an explosive and sending threats through the mail.

It is the second time Atkins has been charged with threatening Doumar, said federal prosecutor Mike Smythers. Five years ago, Atkins was convicted of threatening Doumar through the mail and sentenced to five years in prison. He had filed charges against corrections officials and Doumar dismissed the charges.
