EAGLE SCOUTS

Marc Jon-Maurice Perras has received the Eagle Scout award. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 66, sponsored by the Virginia Beach Ruritan Club.

In seven years of Scouting, Perras has earned 24 merit badges.

Perras, 18, has been senior patrol leader and assistant Scout master. He has also been awarded the Order of Arrow, International Camping and God and Country.

Perras attends Kempsville High School, where his interests include being a member of the Spanish Honor Society, academic letter and art shows. He is also the senior art editor for ``Montage'' literary magazine.

Perras is the son of Wayne and Alice Perras of Kempsville, and he attends Providence Presbyterian Church. For his Eagle Scout service project, he designed and built a new fence and gate at the entrance of False Cape State Park.

``Scouting has given me a great appreciation of our natural environment and all it has to offer each one of us,'' he said.

Four members of Boy Scout Troop 791, sponsored by Nimmo United Methodist Church Men's Club, also have received Eagle Scout awards:

Dale B. Bradley has earned 23 merit badges in 4 1/2 years of Scouting.

Bradley, 15, has been troop guide, troop historian, senior patrol leader and troop scribe. He attends Kellam High School, where his interests include jazz band and drama department.

Bradley is the son of Lori and Gary Bradley of Foxfire, and he attends Westwood Hill Baptist Church. For his Eagle Scout service project, he took part in the beautification of Princess Anne Middle School.

``Scouting has taught me leadership abilities. It has also taught me how to communicate with others,'' he said.

Wesley Leon Handy has earned 29 merit badges and eight skill awards in six years of Scouting.

Handy, 16, has been chaplain aide, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, den chief, troop guide, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader and junior assistant scout master. He also has received the Order of the Arrow and Arrow of Light.

Handy attends Kellam High School, where his interests include baseball, football, basketball, computers and the church youth choir. His honors include a 3.21 grade point average and honor roll.

Handy is the son of Sylvia D. and Roger L. Handy of Three Oaks. He attends London Bridge Baptist Church. For his Eagle Scout service project, he led a group of boys' efforts to prepare a lot in the back of his neighborhood for the construction of a softball field. A backstop was added, and the field was leveled.

``Scouting has provided me with a backup to my Christian morals. In addition, my life is centered around the Scout motto, slogan, law and oath,'' he said.

David S. Johnson has earned 28 merit badges and four skill awards in six years of Scouting.

Johnson, 17, has been assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, troop scribe and troop instructor.

Johnson attends Kellam High School, where he is a member of the scale model building club.

Johnson, a Landstown Meadows resident, is the son of Bonnie Johnson and Ernest L. Johnson III, and he attends Virginia Beach Methodist Church. For his Eagle Scout service project, he built benches in the courtyard of Kellam High School.

``Scouting has taught me to get along with other people and has also taught me survival skills,'' he said.

James Mixon Lynch has earned 43 merit badges and two skill awards in 8 1/2 years of Scouting.

Lynch, 16, has been senior patrol leader for one year, is a troop guide and has served as a summer camp counselor in Hawaii. He has received the Order of the Arrow and Gold Palm Leaf.

Lynch attends First Colonial High School, where he is NJROTC chief petty officer. He is a member of the national honor society, varsity wrestling and soccer teams, and the honor roll.

Lynch, a Lago Mar resident, is the son of Diana Turonis and Ted R. Mixon, and he attends Nimmo United Methodist Church. For his Eagle Scout service project, he removed brush from a city park in Arlington and constructed three park benches. He also filled a low spot in the park and built a flower bed for a church group.

``Scouting has taught me maturity, morals and logical solution solving. Scouting has been a motivational tool to make me achieve high goals in life and school,'' he said. ``My sons in the future will be in Scouting.'' ILLUSTRATION: Photos
