WHALE WATCHING STILL IN SEASON

ILLUSTRATION: Photo by SUSAN BARCO

The flukes of ``Rabbit,'' a juvenile humpback whale, emerge in

waters off the coast of Virginia Beach. Whale watching trips

sponsored by the Virginia Marine Science Museum have been extended

again, but this time for as long as the whales stick around.

Typically, the boat trips are suspended in late February when the

whales leave Virginia's shores. But whale sightings in the last

month have been on the rise. Whales are being spotted on 92 percent

of the trips. More than 21,000 people have gone on the museum's

whale watching trips since they began in January. Public trips are

scheduled Friday through Monday. For information and reservations,

call the museum at 437-4949.
