Rare indeed are the nights when two bowlers rack up 300 games on the same night in the same league.
It happened in the Brian Moon Memorial Trio Tenpin League at Franklin Bowl in a single match.
Duane Rupp, one of the area's 200-average bowlers and the only bowler to post a 300 in league play at Franklin Bowl last season, fired his 300 in the second game of the three-game match in the Wednesday loop.
On the opposing team Gene Eason came back with his perfecto in the third game.
Rupp finished with a 733 series and Eason had 752.
One earlier 300 was rolled in league play at Franklin Bowl this season - by Gerald Wiggins.
Each of the 300 shooters received a $100 cash prize and a year's free practice bowling.
Bowler of the Week honors go to Bud Jacobson, a local league bowler who also participates in the Sparetimes Doubles Tenpin League in Hampton.
Jacobson registered the highest three-games ever in state league competition with 866. He had games of 299, 300 and 267.
He added a 278 in the four-game league for an overall pinfall of 1,144 and a game average of 286.

Duckpin data: Bowling lost one of its most avid supporters with the death of Bob Crosby. Not only was he an active participant until cancer forced him to the sidelines but Crosby was instrumental in keeping the duckpin game alive in Hampton Roads. He was a member of the board of directors of Duckpin Associates Ltd., the group of bowlers who banded together to buy and operate Victory Lanes. He also secured a sponsor for his entire league on Wednesday night. The good-natured Crosby will be remembered as the No. 1 joke teller among local bowlers. . . . The Virginia State Tournament got underway this weekend at Bowlarama. The competition runs through April 23 and this year bowlers can walk in and compete without advance registration. . . . He did. by CNB
