In July 1994, my assessment went from $77,136 to $82,108. In July 1995, my assessment goes from $82,108 to $85,652. That is an increase of $8,516, which is more than 10 percent in hardly more than a year.
When did the state pass a law allowing the assessor to group homes in a section, total the selling prices, divide by the square feet in that section and use that figure for each assessment?

Inappropriate language spoiled school play
Because we have a grandson who is deaf, my wife and I took him to see the play ``Children of a Lesser God,'' put on by the students at First Colonial High School some time ago.
The students and others are to be commended for the countless hours of hard work in their preparation for this performance, which they enacted so well. But what a pity that such a well-orchestrated program had to be spoiled by the unnecessary references to sexual promiscuity and the obscene and vul-gar language.
I live in the real world and I don't have virgin ears, but I was appalled that the students were allowed to use this, especially on school property, and offended at the taking of the name of my God and my Christ in vain, not once but numerous times.
Strange, is it not, that I paid to see a play in a public high school, supported by my tax dollars, only to hear the name of my Lord ``screamed'' out in a vulgar way, when the same school system, unless I am misinformed, would not permit students or any other person to take part in a school function or ceremony and offer a prayer in the name of Jesus Christ?
