MAN, 18, KILLED AS CAR RUNS OFF SPAN INTO WATER

An 18-year-old man died early Saturday after the car he was driving apparently ran off a bridge into about 12 feet of water.

The car was pulled from the water Saturday morning and the body was recovered. The name of the victim was being withheld until relatives could be notified.

The car ran through a guardrail on a small bridge on North Armistead Avenue near LaSalle Avenue just before 3 a.m.

A police dive team was called in and found the car; the occupant was dead.

It was unclear what caused the car to leave the roadway.
