Maestas Funeral Home, an Oceanfront institution located at 1801 Baltic Ave., sustained damages in a two-alarm fire Saturday night, authorities said.
The 8:40 p.m. blaze started in a second-floor apartment over the funeral home and burned through the roof, said city fire department spokesman Chase Sargent. An occupant escaped unharmed.
It took about 25 minutes for fire fighters to contain the blaze, Sargent said.
``It was a fairly substantial fire,'' he said.
The cause of the blaze was undetermined. The upstairs apartment was heavily damaged and the downstairs area of the family-run funeral home sustained moderate smoke and water damage, Sargent said. by CNB
