BROTHER JOEL GEORGE GLOVER

The Venerable Brother Joel George Glover, O.S.B., 50, a monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey, died at the Archabbey on Saturday, March 25, 1995, after a brief struggle with cancer.

Br. Joel was born in Norfolk, Va., on December 23, 1944. He attended Blessed Sacrament Parochial School, and was a 1963 graduate of Maury High School, both of which are in Norfolk. In 1970 he was accredited as a licensed practical nurse by the Saint Louis (Mo.) Board of Education.

He entered the Benedictine Community of Saint Pius X Abbey in Pevely, Mo. (later moved to Columbia, Mo.), in 1971. He made simple profession of vows on March 17, 1974, and solemn profession on January 1, 1983. When Saint Pius X Abbey was discontinued, Brother Joel transferred his vow of stability to Saint Vincent Archabbey in 1991.

His previous work experience was as a psychological nurse, tailor, weaver, and drug and alcohol counselor. At Saint Vincent, Br. Joel was an infirmarian and guestmaster, and assisted with the Retreat Program.

Br. Joel is survived by two sisters: Mary Baker of Towson, Md., and Kathryn Whitson of Norfolk, Va. He was predeceased by his parents, George A. and Kathryn (O'Connor) Glover of Norfolk.

Viewing will be on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m., in Leander Hall, Saint Vincent Archabbey. A wake service will be conducted in the Archabbey Basilica on Monday at 7:15 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Basilica on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Benedictine Community Cemetery, Unity Township, Westmoreland County.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Health and Welfare Fund of Saint Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, Pa. 15650.
