Cole Campbell's ``Editor's Notebook'' (March 19) was so typical of the arrogance shown in your paper daily.
Mr. Campbell spoke of a ``multi-racial'' push to actively seek minorities to work on The Virginian-Pilot when, in fact, you are talking pure quotas. To reach your percentage goal by the year 2000, how many of your present employees will have to be let go to make room for the politically correct new wave?
You want to reflect America in the building of a staff! Obviously you just don't get it either. The White House has been unable to pull it off in more than two years; what makes you think you can?
Mr. Campbell would better serve his readers by skipping the Chicago trip and staying home to police his present staff and see to it that there is equal opportunity for all concerned to present their side of a story.
Diverse does not apply only to physical characteristics; it can also be used to describe opinions - something your paper seems to overlook entirely.
