JOHNNIE E. BRIDGERS

Johnnie E. Bridgers of the 4000 block of Windsor Gate Place, died March 27, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital

He was born in Petersburg, Va. and was reared in Rocky Mount, N.C. He was employed in food service with Colonial Stores. Mr. Bridgers was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, where he was treasurer for 25 years, served on the Finance Committee and Male Usher Board and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of Rising Sun Lodge (NU)2, PHAF & AM.

Survivors include his wife, Cora E. Bridgers; a daughter, Vanessa D. Bridgers; and two sons, Roderick Bridgers and Aaron P. Bridgers, all of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Christabell B. Bates of Norfolk, Marian B. Barnett of New York City and Rhetha B. Farmer of Rocky Mount, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Devin D. Bridgers and Ian E. Bridgers, both of Virginia Beach. He was predeceased by two brothers, James ``Bones'' Bridgers and David H. Bridgers.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Second Calvary Baptist Church, 2940 Corprew Ave., by the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey V. Guns. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The remains will be ready for viewing at 3 p.m. Wednesday and will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Thursday. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. for the processional. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the H.W.B. Walker Educational Fund.
