Jurors in the federal fraud trial of former United Way leader William Aramony concluded a second day of deliberations Monday without a verdict. They are scheduled to return to work this morning.
Aramony and two former top aides are accused of looting the charity of about $600,000 to pay for luxury vacations and other perks.
Aramony, 67, used much of the money to pay for his four-year affair with a Florida woman who was 17 when they met in 1986, prosecutors said. Thomas J. Merlo, 64, was a consultant and chief financial officer for United Way of America. Stephen J. Paulachak, 49, was a longtime Aramony aide who headed a spinoff company the men allegedly used to siphon money from the charity.
