William H. Powell, 73, died Wednesday, March 29, 1995, at Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
He was a native of Greenville County, Va. Mr. Powell was retired from Newport News Shipyard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church East End in Newport News, where he served as the president of the Usher Board. He was a member of the Union Light Masonic Lodge. He also served as a volunteer for Meals On Wheels.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Powell and daughter-in-law, Gloria Powell, both of Clinton, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie West of Suffolk and Mrs. Marie P. Simpson of Hampton; four brothers, Leroy Powell of Brooklyn, N.Y., Robert Powell of Tocoma Park, Md., Charlie Powell of Washington, D.C., George Powell of Hampton; two grandchildren, Trina Powell and Terrance Powell, both of Clinton, Md.; three sisters-in-law, Eula Powell of Tocoma, Md., Lorretta Powell of Washington, D.C., and Shirley Powell of Hampton.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, at noon at First Baptist Church East End with the Rev. W. M. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Gilmore Funeral Home, Newport News.
