Fitz Ormon Clarke, 89, of the 6400 block of Whaleyville Blvd., died March 29, 1995, at his home.
A native of Dinwiddie County, he was a son of the late Thomas Percy and Lula Robertson Clarke and was the widower of Patty Hunter Clarke. Mr. Clarke was a retired peanut processor with the A & P Tea Company. He was a member of Whaleyville United Methodist Church and Whaleyville Ruritan Club. He was a former teacher and coach at Whaleyville High School. Mr. Clarke formerly served on the Board of Supervisors of Nansemond County and the Nansemond County School Board.
Survivors include his sons, Hunter Clarke of Virginia Beach and Fitz Clarke of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Sally Mae Christensen of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two brothers, Thomas Clifford Clarke of Norfolk and Roland Clarke of Jarratt, Va.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Clarke of Atlanta, Holmes Clarke of Virginia Beach, Thomas Clarke of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ann Clarke of Atlanta and Katie Clarke of Savannah, Ga.; and one great-grandchild, Brittanie Clarke of Salt Lake City.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Whaleyville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lane Wadsworth. The family will receive friends at the home after the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va. 23439. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
