I was glad to read that you plan to run more nutrition articles in the midweek Flavor section.
I was disappointed, however, to read the Flavor article ``Starches may trigger weight gain in some'' (March 9) from The New York Times. It may take months or even years for a health professional like myself to clear up the confusion caused by one newspaper article.
A March 8 USA Today article on the same subject includes the fact that individuals following a low-fat, high carbohydrate diet may fail to lose weight because they overeat calories, not because they are eating too much pasta.
I hope that you will consider the excellent local resources you have for future nutrition articles to prevent consumer confusion. The Tidewater Dietetic Association is a 140- member organization of Registered Dietitians, Dietetic students, Dietetic Technicians and other nutrition professionals. As co-chair of the Tidewater Dietetic Association's Public Relations Committee, I would be glad to put you in touch with experts from our organization.
