Nuncy Joseph Sabato entered into eternal life Wednesday, March 29, 1995, at DePaul Hospital.
Mr. Sabato, a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, was a very active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, its Men's Club and Nocturnal Adoration Society. Mr. Sabato retired from the United States Civil Service at The Naval Air Systems Command in 1977. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, served his country in the European theater for over three years and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was, for the past 20 years, a full time volunteer serving the needs of St. Pius X Catholic Church and its school. In 1993 he was awarded by the Catholic Diocese of Richmond its distinguished award for Outstanding Volunteerism in its Catholic School System.
Mr. Sabato was a member of Knights of Columbus (NU)367, a past Grand Commander of International Order of the Alhambra, Padul Caravan (NU)69 and was active in Norfolk Neighborhood Civic Leagues.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Margaret Simmons Sabato of Norfolk; and a son, Dr. Larry J. Sabato of The University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.
A Joyful Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. William J. Dale. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held in St. Pius X Catholic Church this evening at 7 p.m., followed by a visitation with the family until 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Pius X Catholic School Expansion Fund, 7800 Halprin Drive, Norfolk, Va. 23518, in order that a wing will be added in Nuncy's name. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements.
