Carole Sawyer, 50, of the 600 block of Hamilton Ave., died March 29, 1995, in Portsmouth.
A native of Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Katherine Springer Burden and Robert Lee Sawyer. Miss Sawyer retired as a claims agent for the Virginia Department of Veterans Affairs after 13 years and was a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church in Portsmouth.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, James L. Jolliff Jr. of Portsmouth; three sisters, Jamie Jolliff Everett of Virginia Beach, Katherine Jolliff Abraham of Lutherville, Md., and Betsy Jolliff Mazzone of Portsmouth; a dear friend, Marylin Stephenson Hodge of St. Paul, Minn.; and many good friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Wilby Jolliff.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by Dr. Ector Hamrick. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Lee's Friends, 618 Stockley Gardens, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the residence, 610 Hamilton Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
