James L. Hutton Jr. of 1317 Ghent Commons Drive, died March 29, 1995, at the age of 45.
He was the son of the late James L. Hutton Sr., with whom he worked in their family business, Huttons Heating and Oil Company. A native of Hampton, Mr. Hutton graduated from Hampton High School and went on to earn bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from Old Dominion University. He taught in the Norfolk Public School System for 18 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Virginia Music Educators Association, American Choral Directors Association, Norfolk Federation of Teachers, and was the past president of the Virginia Choral Directors Association. He was a member and served the music program of First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk as a tenor soloist and music assistant, a position he held and cherished for 23 years.
Survivors include his mother, Maxine T. VonBergen of Hampton; his stepfather, Col. Edward F. VonBergen of Hampton; a sister, Ann Hutton Morrison of Seaford, Va.; and a niece, Debra Ann Kearney of Bath, Maine.
A church service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 1995, in the First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk at noon by the Rev. J. Shepherd Russell Jr. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
