WILLIAM L. HAND

William L. ``Bill'' Hand, 64, of the 400 block of Guynn Ave., a quality assurance evaluator, died March 29, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.

Mr. Hand was born in Raven, Va., and was in his 31st year of service with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Broadmoor Church of Christ and Loyal Order of the Moose (NU)898 of Portsmouth, and was an Army veteran of the 82nd Airborne.

Survivors include his wife, Janice M. Hand; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah H. Gibbs and her husband, Tommy Gibbs of Virginia Beach and Vickie H. Newman of Chesapeake; two stepdaughters, Veronica Link of Kissimmee, Fla. and Angela Belcher of Las Vegas; two stepsons, Arnold Matherly Jr. of Hampton and Michael Matherly of Portsmouth; five sisters, Frances V. Barthlein, Gladys L. Roseland, Ethel M. Kay, Ruth A. Holloway and Jo Ann Smith, all of Chesapeake; a brother, Edward P. Hand of Portsmouth; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank M. Hand and Larry K. Hand.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, by Mr. Jim Jones. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. ILLUSTRATION: Personal photo
