As an April Fools' prank, Pat Murphy, the instigator of the airwaves, and Mayor Paul Fraim, a conciliator on City Council, are switching jobs today.
Fraim is to take over Murphy's usually provocative talk shows this morning on WTAR-AM 790. Murphy, in turn, is occupying Fraim's wood-paneled office in City Hall.
``I'm looking forward to having closed-door meetings and making decisions without the input of citizens,'' said Murphy, tongue firmly in cheek.
Meanwhile, Fraim is to host the ``Morning Magazine'' show and ``Pat Murphy's Virginia. Fraim said he expected to be on the air from about 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Fraim was eager to let listeners say what they think about Murphy. After all, Fraim said, Murphy has been prompting listeners to gripe about politicians for years.
``It will be open season on Pat Murphy,'' Fraim said. ``Anybody who has anything to say about Pat Murphy, this will be their chance to call in and sound off.''
Normally Fraim is known as a peacemaker on the council. So, taking on Murphy's job, stirring up controversial issues, will be quite a switch fro Fraim.
Fraim will be back in office in time for the Doo Dah parade.
``I certainly wouldn't want to miss the Doo Dah parade just because the city needs someone to run it,'' Murphy said. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
