FLORIDA EDUCATOR NAMED ODU'S DEAN OF EDUCATION

Donna B. Evans, a dean at the University of North Florida, has been named the dean of Old Dominion University's Darden College of Education.

Jo Ann Gora, ODU's provost, said of Evans, ``Her commitment to urban education and to developing partnerships with the local school systems will enable the College of Education to be a better resource to the community.''

Evans will earn $108,000 a year. She will start at ODU on July 1.

Evans has been dean of education at the Jacksonville university since 1991.

Before that, she was dean of education at Wayne State University in Detroit and chairwoman of the education department at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Evans, who is black, was the first minority faculty member to become a full professor at Skidmore.

At ODU, she succeeds Donald A. Myers, who has returned to teaching. Associate Dean Stephen G. Greiner was acting dean this school year. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
