Gov. James B. Hunt Jr.'s Crime Commission has awarded $91,912 in a federal grant to Dare County's Outer Banks Hotline for its Battered Women Recovery Program.
The program will provide crisis intervention and extended recovery services to battered women and their children staying in the shelter.
The commission also awarded $65,000 in federal money to the Hyde County Sheriff's Department for its Caring About Children program, which provides a school resource officer for county schools.
The sheriff's department will hire one school resource officer to serve Hyde County, including Ocracoke and Mattamuskeet. The department also will use the money to buy one vehicle and supplies. by CNB
