The admissions director who accepted a girl to the all-male Citadel was reassigned because of that case and two other incidents, The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Friday.
The newspaper quoted two unidentified board members as saying that Wallace West was sent to the alumni office because of the furor over Shannon Faulkner's admission; the recent indictment of a recruiter for falsifying travel expenses; and another case in which a girl received a letter asking if she planned to attend a corps of cadets orientation weekend.
Citadel Board Chairman Jimmy Jones said the newspaper report was based on ``speculations and innuendos.'' He wouldn't comment further and West didn't return a telephone call Friday.
Faulkner applied to the college two years ago after deleting references to her gender on her high school transcripts. The school rescinded her acceptance after officials discovered she was a woman. She sued in federal court and won the right to join the corps. The school appealed and the appeal is pending. ILLUSTRATION: Faulkner
