A high-speed car crash early Friday left a 20-year-old passenger dead and a 17-year-old driver badly injured, police said.
The driver was under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of a two-door Nissan on Wolfsnare Road about 2:20 a.m., investigators said.
Police withheld his name because of his age. He was charged with driving a car after illegally drinking alcohol.
The passenger, Antwan V. Blount of the 3200 block of Florence St., died at the scene.
Police said the car hurtled out of control and struck a tree, pinning both occupants. Rescue crews worked for 30 minutes to free the driver, who underwent emergency surgery at Virginia Beach General Hospital. He is listed in serious condition.
Police said the investigation is continuing. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.
