Western Branch catcher Angie Albertson went 7 for 7 over two games Friday to lead the second-ranked Bruins to the final of the inagural Western Branch Softball Invitational.
Albertson delivered four hits and a pair of RBIs in the Bruins' 15-4 first-round victory over Poquoson, then added two singles, a double and three runs scored in a 7-5 triumph over Robinson in the semifinals.
In today's 2 p.m. final, the Bruins (4-2) will meet Chantilly, which overwhelmed 1994 Group AAA state champion Midlothian, 18-0, in the other semifinal.
The game will be a reunion of sorts for Western Branch coach Chris Ake, who enjoyed a wildly successful stint as Chantilly's softball coach from 1989-91. Ake's teams compiled a 62-10 record and won back-to-back state titles.
Ake's hand-picked successor, Kathy Matthew, has led the Chargers to consecutive Northern Region titles.
The Chargers topped Deep Creek, 6-4, in the first round. In other first-round games, Robinson upended Nansemond-Suffolk, 7-2, while Midlothian downed West Potomac, 12-8.
