4-YEAR-OLD KILLED ON LYNNHAVEN PARKWAY

A 4-year-old boy who darted from a shopping-center parking lot onto Lynnhaven Parkway Saturday was killed when a car hit him, police said.

The accident happened just before 5 p.m. near the parkway's intersection with Pleasant Valley Road.

Police spokesman Lou Thurston said the boy, Kaylon G. Webb of the 2000 block of Lyndora Road, was at the shopping center with another child and wasn't under adult supervision.

Thurston said Kaylon had strayed from his home in the 2000 block of Lyndora Road and went with a friend to the store without the knowledge of his grandmother, who was apparently watching him for the afternoon.

Kaylon ran from behind a row of shrubs and into the road and was hit by southbound Ford Escort driven by 18-year-old Graham A. Marsteller, police said.

Thurston said it looked like Marsteller swerved the car to avoid the child, but couldn't. Thurston said no charges are anticipated against Marsteller, of the 800 block of Whispering Woods Court.

Kaylon was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
