CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

NORFOLK

On Monday, March 20, about 8 p.m., a man entered the Spur Service station in the 2500 block of Hampton Blvd.

The man went to the counter to pay for a soft drink.

But as the cashier took the man's money and the cash drawer opened, the man struck the cashier in the neck and removed the money from the register.

The suspect fled north on Hampton Boulevard.

The robber is described as black, in his late 20s, about 6 feet 4 inches tall and 215 pounds. He had a dark complexion, was clean shaven and had a short box-fade haircut. He was wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans.

VIRGINIA BEACH

Between Friday, March 17, at 2 p.m., and Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m., someone removed a yellow, 1993 John Deere 510-D backhoe-loader with an enclosed cab from the storage area behind Coastal Equipment Co. in the 500 block of South Military Highway. The vehicle is valued at $55,000.

Investigators believe the thieves used a trailer to move the equipment and may have been seen by passing motorists.

Antwan Dominic Campbell, 21, is wanted for carjacking, attempted robbery, two counts of robbery, two counts of using a firearm while committing a felony and malicious assault.

Campbell is described as black, 6 feet tall and 160 pounds.

PORTSMOUTH

On Feb. 13, about 10:30 a.m., police were called to the Southeast Public Service Authority plant in the first block of Victory Boulevard where workers had discovered the body of a newborn baby in a pile of trash.

Several Hampton Roads cities make deliveries to the plant and it is unclear which city the body may have come from.

Investigators are looking for information about the mother and what city the body may have come from.

Workers at the plant have given the name ``Angel Valentine'' to the baby and on March 22, the Portsmouth Police Department made arrangements to give ``Angel Valentine'' a proper burial.

SUFFOLK

Since the beginning of construction of homes in the Burbage Lakes development, thefts have occurred on a regular basis - even after hiring a private security company to monitor the area.

The items taken range from construction material, such as plywood, 2-by-4s and other lumber, to kitchen ranges, refrigerators, washers, dryers and a microwave.

Detectives suspect some of the thefts may involve contractors stealing from each other.
