Dixie Austin Ballance, 66, died March 31, 1995 in her home.
She was a native of Hattaras, N.C. and she had lived in Norfolk for 40 years. She was employed with the J.C. Penney Co. in Norfolk and also by the Sea Gull Motel in Hattaras. She was a former member of Brentwood Baptist Church in Norfolk and a current member of Hattaras United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Reece Kermit Ballance of Hattaras; three daughters, Karen Rogers of Annapolis, Md., and Lovie Fortune and Cindy Fullerton, both of Virginia Beach; one son, David L. Ballance of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Lawrence Lee Austin and Gary S. Austin, both of Hattaras; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Hatteras United Methodist Church by the Rev. James Huskins and the Rev. Don Brown. Burial will be in Ballance Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends anytime in the home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hattaras Island Adult Care, P.O. Box 159, Frisco, N.C. 27936 or to the church. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
